Martha is the documentary about how Martha Stewart became the first female billionaire, the witch hunt that saw her jailed for 5 months and then the comeback.
What I saw was a strong woman who is unapologetic for who she is and, the steely determination it took to rise to the top. This documentary perfectly shows the sexism and envy of the men that plotted to bring her down. Reviews that describe Martha Stewart as prickly clearly aren’t used to seeing successful women who’ve earned their place.
I am biased because I loved the Martha magazine well before I owned anything. This documentary did that rare thing, it got under the skin of the icon and showed as the woman. In her own words, Martha can spot a void before others and knows how to fill it.
To describe Martha as the original influencer is reductive and rude! She built her empire with her own hands from the ground upwards. She deserves respect and this documentary gives that to her. My take away lessons: don’t be afraid of change and be unapologetic.
This is an inspiring and interesting watch!
Martha is available to stream on Netflix.
