I’m a London girl who lived in Paris, not only the city of light but a city of culinary delights, and after 5 years moved back home to busy bustling London!
I’ve survived moving countries, a car crash and a 26 hour flight wearing a neck brace all alone but eating dinner alone in a restaurant was something that filled me with fear: all those pitying looks etc and forget about drinking in a bar alone – no way, never!
Apparently more and more people than ever live alone: 10.5 million to be exact in 2011 (Euromonitor International Report – 17 May 2012). However, does solo/single/ in between relationships means sitting at home with a meal for one – no it doesn’t. At least it didn’t for me in February 2013 when I started on my quest to eat in restaurants and drink solo aperos in bars across Paris.
If you want to read about great restaurants, bistros, bars and hidden gems that only the locals know about then you’ve come to the right place. This blog is completely independent – I pay for all my own meals and drinks so that I can tell it like it is whether it’s fabulously tasty or just vomit inducing. I don’t have Michelin star money so you’ll read about quirky, hip and classic places on here and what they are really like!
Not only do I eat solo but I review films. I’m a film critic and covered festivals, interviewed a myriad of directors, had a feature on the Film Programme radio 4 and appeared live on the Victoria Derbyshire show (BBC2) , 03/01/2017 to talk about Oscar hopefuls, diversity and what now for the #oscarsowhite controversy. I covered the Cannes Film Festival 2017 for HMV and FOPP and think I’ve just recovered from all the socialising!
PS : Why is the website called Liquid Marmalade ? Well, I have 12 jars of it sitting on my kitchen worktable with no clue of how to get rid of them…
